Quick facts you should know:
- Connecticut Home Inspectors are required to be licensed.
- Home Inspectors should carry at least Errors and Omissions Insurance.
- A licensed Home Inspector can have an intern perform inspections on their own (after performing 10 direct supervised inspections) under that Home Inspectors license and insurance.
To obtain a Home Inspector’s license in the state of Connecticut a person shall:
(1) Have successfully completed high school or its equivalent
(2) Have earned a home inspector intern permit(requires formal course work) and performed not less than one hundred home inspections
(3) Have passed an oral, written or electronic competency examination and a business law examination administered by the Department of Consumer Protection; and
(4) Paid a fee of two hundred dollars.
STANDARDS OF PRACTICE AND CODE OF ETHICS
You may find many Home Inspection agencies claim to adhere to a set of higher standards or code of ethics of some Home Inspector Association. The State of Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection mandates and oversees a thorough and disciplined set of STANDARDS of PRACTICE and CODE of ETHICS for Connecticut Home Inspectors, these may be found at the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection website.
CERTIFICATIONS and ORGANIZATIONS
Home Inspectors in Connecticut are required to go through a Board approved training course, internship program and take two state exams to become licensed. Many Home Inspection Organizations, have their members take tests and meet whatever criteria they feel appropriate to give them a status of Certified Home Inspector or allow them the use of their nationally recognized branding.

Home Inspectors provide Inspection Reports in several ways, the most common are:

- Pictures or no pictures
